This blog is dedicated to sharing with you my efforts to try a natural approach to healing the body. I have been disappointed with the results and side effects that popular medicine has given me and believe that a natural approach would have far better and lasting results. In 2012, I switched to a gluten free diet. I kind of stumbled upon it when I tried the HCG diet to help reset my body’s systems. I was amazed to find that my quality of life drastically improved! I had been living with symptoms so long that I did not realize that they were not normal. I struggled with constant fatigue, brain fog, sore throat and acid reflux so bad that it at times I had trouble breathing.
A couple years down the road I had my son in 2014. The following year, I had developed my second ovarian cyst (the first one was so large and painful that it had to be surgically removed and immediately after I became pregnant). This cyst successfully went away on it’s own but not until after I had tried a chemical birth control that trashed my body’s immune system, hormones and gut health. I became so bloated that I looked like I was pregnant again.
I decided to once again take my health into my own hands. I followed the much stricter paleo diet along with being gluten free. I also began a detox regime by taking ACV twice a day, and molasses and coconut oil once a day. I added natural and supplemental probiotics to improve my gut health. I also discovered that corn seemed to be aggravating my body so I cut out all forms of corn from my diet as well. With all of these efforts combined, I managed to lose all of the bloating and began to heal my body’s gut health. As you can see, it made a vast difference!
Within three months (yes, only three months!), I had drastically changed my body and my health! I have since not been so strict with my diet. I have even recently re-entered corn back into my diet without any noticeable effects. Now I am pregnant with my second baby, a girl! Since while being pregnant I cannot take most forms of medications, I have had to try other natural alternatives like essential oils, vitamin C, and lots and lots of tea! Once I have Baby Girl I would like to do another detox by eating more whole foods again, I just have to be careful since I plan on breastfeeding as long as possible.
As you can see, this journey is never ending. Not everyone’s body is cookie-cutter similar. Each person has to find out what works best for them and their family’s situation. But I know that health is a huge struggle for many people. It can be a very daunting task starting out. Mealtimes can become stressful and boring. So I hope that this blog can be encouraging to you as you discover new recipes, alternatives to medications and even just another person who can walk with you and say, yes, I do know how that feels.
I would love to hear from you as well! Please feel free to share your experiences; what has worked for you and what didn’t. And if you have any questions or suggestions I would appreciate those as well!
